Navigation in Moodle is not great out of the box, the navigation block is terrible but it does allow you to navigate the entire site from it. I believe the reason that is there is so that Moodle. Org can be sure the site is navigable regardless of the theme used. Students can be auto enrolled via a payment gateway if you wanted to set that up but it does not do this out of the box.
Once students are enrolled you can present their courses nicely on their dashboard , make the dashboard the default landing page when they log in etc. It takes a little work but people do deliver courses commercially through Moodle. Equally a lot of people just create courses in authoring tools like iSpring, Articulate and publish those on very lightweight platforms designed to sell basic e-learning packages.
