In season one, after softening up her charges, Val delivers the first treatment. Players are allowed to sleep but are awakened repeatedly by earsplitting alarms; to stop the onslaught, they must regurgitate a numeric code that grows more complex with each cycle.
It gets worse—or better, depending on your perspective. Bleary-eyed contestants must scrutinize a video montage of horrors to solve an equation. They complete hundreds of sickening revolutions on a sit-and-spin apparatus. In fact, they say, some players find the isolation therapeutic. Golder allows that the audience is 55 percent female and that it grew steadily during season two.
The creators had hoped to avoid such allusions. When Solitary was in development, Abu Ghraib was still a fresh wound, and they treaded carefully, nixing direct references to prisons, cells, inmates, and above all, the t-word.

I must say that Solitary was one of the best reality shows that I have seen. It was original and extremely well put together. No one to really compete with one another, can't see nor speak to each other unless it is through a computerized voice named VAL.
I liked the fact that they had to live their time in Solitary attempting to find themselves as well as conquer their fears. I wish more reality shows were like this one. Most that you see now days is practically the same thing.
People eventually fighting and stabbing another in the back to achieve the goal of that particular show they are on. You don't see that in Solitary. Just nine people in little pods hoping to achieve the ultimate goal. I love the fact that they had to go through tests and treatments to attempt to find out how much they can take.

So long as you're not the first player to quit, you move on, but with no idea on whether or not someone had quit, some people will spend literally hours suffering even when everybody else has quit.
