If you were to start with Certificate in Business Accounting then it would take around 4 years to complete. Go as quickly or as slowly as you need. Both qualifications are fantastic, and have their benefits. CIMA is focused more on business skills, management, and strategy and has a focus on industry. ACCA is based more on traditional accountancy and accountancy practice, with technical accounting knowledge as the primary focus.
To decide between the two you need to think about what you want to do as a career and where you see yourself in the future. Roughly speaking, those with ACCA tend to go down a career path of financial specialist, and general practice including audit and insolvency,. Those with CIMA tend to go into management and strategic roles in business and finance including business partnering.
Particularly if you have limited previous accounting experience, work full-time and are striving to complete all the exams in 3 years. A combination of these things makes CIMA more difficult. Passing takes sacrifice. Or when you miss another family dinner. To pass CIMA, you have to prioritise it. This makes your support network crucial. Instead of dwelling on how difficult CIMA is, figure out what you can do to make it easier. Look at alternative ways to study that will fit in better with your life such as online or blended learning. Or focus on what works and try to apply that to the areas you are weak in.
